These days it seems that a wide variety of factors come together with the sole purpose of empowering kids to gain weight, that is why childhood weight loss has become so important during the last few years. Television, junk food, video games, all these things combined will eventually result in the loss of a kid's balanced nutrition and exercising motivation; obviously it is highly common to find kids with overweight problems.

The childhood weight loss motivation and encouragement should come directly from parents, because as role figures, parents have the responsibility to promote a healthy way of life in their kids. Overweight problems in kids are not only bad for their future life in terms of appearance and happiness, but weight issues which are carried into adulthood are also very dangerous, because the kid, when fully grown, might develop several different health problems related to the excess fat accumulated in his body during several years. The only way to avoid this is by following a strict childhood weight loss program.

But what can parents do to promote this childhood weight loss habits? Well, first of all, as parents, we should talk to our kids and let them know about the different dangers that an overweight problem may arise. It is also very important to spend a lot of time with them and to teach them with our very behavior, meaning that you shouldn't do things that may endanger your health; otherwise your kid might mimic your behavior and end up suffering from a future health problem.

Following this same concept, it is very important for childhood weight loss, that you promote a healthy nutrition in your kids, always try to prepare healthy meals which are low on calories but rich in vitamins and minerals. But the most important childhood weight loss tip is to highly enforce your kid's self-esteem, never ever make them feel bad about the way they look, instead try to help them in their efforts.

Now, we all know that junk food plays a vital role in the life of any kid, however these sorts of nutrition are terrible for their childhood weight loss efforts, so try to replace them with a supply of healthy snacks that they may enjoy every once in a while. Kids often eat whatever seems already at hand, and since most of the time its chocolates and candy bars, they will eat them without any remorse. Effective Weight Loss - It's All About the Metabolism, Eating Right

Most people do not understand much about losing weight. They get bogged down by searching for the fastest way to shed that few pounds. The most common is that they factor in a lot of cardiovascular exercises and neglect their diet; that is they prefer to starve themselves with the incorrect mindset that eating less will make them slimmer. In a sense, that is right. Eating less makes you slimmer. But for effective weight loss, eating right is priority.

When we talk about metabolism, we mean the mechanism in your body that propels food digestion, shedding the excess weight that is stored on the walls on your stomach, churning them into fats. How then, do we speed up this mechanism, making it propel faster?

Let's start off first with a proper diet. First off, keep your meals small and healthy. Forget about fast food for awhile. You don't want to spend 4 hours jogging off that Big Mac!

Have your meals in intervals of significant 3 to four hours. (And by significant I mean from the time you stop eating to the time you start again). Yes you must be thinking, if I have a meal every 3 to 4 hours, I am eating close to 5 meals a day! That's right! We want to keep your metabolism running!

Let's say, for example, we start the day with a healthy choice of finesse cereal and a banana (fibers from banana helps you defecate). With a light breakfast, you are bound to feel hungry approximately 3 to 4 hours later, and it's probably time for lunch. Take a trip to the nearest cafe (or supermarket if you've got the time) and order a healthy salad, top it up with some boiled chicken strips, or smoked salmon slices if you must but keep off anything fried and make sure that salad dressing is low fat! There you go, who says you've got to stuff yourself trying to lose weight.

After the next interval, you're bound to feel hungry again. Treat yourself to a cookie from Mrs Fields. Just one won't hurt. And then it's probably time for dinner. Don't be afraid to have a steak for dinner, topped with a side salad and a healthy glass of red wine (but I do reckon you shouldn't put this on your list during the first week of diet). After dinner, take an hour or two break and then have some apple and orange cubes.

The rationale behind this diet is that you are eating small intakes of food that are neither fat nor unhealthy. These food digest quickly and fats won't stick to the walls of your stomach and form a flabby belly. Eating small meals in 3 to 4 hour intervals helps to keep the metabolism running, not forgetting to couple it with a great variation of cardiovascular exercises. Keep up with the routine and you're bound to shed that few pounds in a matter of 2 to 3 weeks!

Habitat
Even though most people think of Antarctica when they think of penguins, actually only two species live on the Antarctic continent (the Adelie and the Emperor). The other species range in habitat from the islands near the Antarctic circle, to the shores of South America, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the Galapagos Islands.

Some species of penguins live 75% of their lives at sea, coming to shore only to breed and molt. Migratory penguins will spend 3-5 months at sea, before coming to shore. Although they do rest on ice floes. Very few details are known about the penguin's life in the sea.


Preditors
Penguins have no large land predators, which is probably why they have little fear of people. The Yellow-eyed penguin is the exception, they are very shy and reclusive. (And also in danger of extinction. It is estimated that there are less than 10,000 left in the world.)

In the sea, penguins are preyed on by killer whales, leopard seals, sea lions, sharks and (according to one book I read) octopus (octopi?).


In Motion
Penguins are great swimmers, with speeds reaching 15 MPH. The Emperor penguin can dive to a depth of 900 feet and stay under for 20 minutes. On land the penguin is not so graceful, their short legs give them their distinctive waddle. They also get around by "tobogganing", which means they flop down on their belly and kick with their feet and flippers over the snow and ice.




Physical Characteristics
Penguins are extremely specialized birds. Totally adapted to the life they lead. Their wings have become flippers, and their feathers have become unlike the feathers of any other type of bird. The feathers are very dense, approximately 70 feathers per square inch. They are shiny, long and stiff. They are somewhat curved and overlapping (like fish scales, or the tiles on a roof). This design helps keep the penguin waterproof. The penguin also keep their feathers well oiled with frequent preening and an oil gland at the base of the tail. Once a year, after breeding, the penguins molt (that is replace the old worn out feathers with new ones). Since the penguins are not waterproof while they are molting, they do not go to sea, and do not eat, during this time. Molting can take 30 days and a penguin may lose as much as 30% of their body weight in the process.

One book mentioned that (since they spend most of their time at sea) penguins drink salt water. They have special glands that remove the salt. It is then excreted as a liquid and drips down the grooves on the sides of the penguins beak.

Cold weather (climate) penguins are well insulated with their thick blubber and feathers. In fact sometimes they become over heated (even the antarctic breeds), especially the dark feathered chicks. To cool off the penguins will pant and fluff up their feathers, to promote heat loss.

Warm climate penguins have exposed areas of pinkish skin on their faces and legs and feet. This helps them keep cool. If the weather is too hot, they will spend most of their time in underground burrows or in the sea, where the cold currents keep them cool.
