A Weight Loss Success Formula: 12 Quick Tips

Follow these twelve simple tips to kickstart (or reinvigorate) your weight loss program.

1. Write down your weight loss goals. Make sure each goal is realistic, and that you have included a time line. Break down larger long-term goals into monthly or weekly goals so you can stay on track without feeling overwhelmed. Its important to commit these goals to paper, so write them down and display your goals where you will see them each day.

2. Each time you reach a goal, reward yourself with a treat. For best results, this treat shouldnt be any kind of food. Reward your new healthy lifestyle with a 30-minute massage, a new exercise video anything that celebrates you and your success without sabotaging it.

3. Drink lots of water. Stay hydrated by drinking -ounce of pure (bottled or filtered) water for every pound of body weight. That means, if you weigh 150 pounds, you need to be drinking 75 ounces of water each day or between 9 and 10 8-ounce glasses.

Drink a glass of water immediately upon waking. And, throughout the day, everytime you feel your energy levels start to dip, drink another glass. Pure bottled or filtered water can really give your mood a boost.

4. Eat a nutritious breakfast. Start your day off right with a nutritious meal, and include some form of protein. For maximum energy and concentration throughout the day, include complex carbohydrates, such as natural whole-grain cereal or bread, as well as a low-fat protein, such as skim milk, cottage cheese, or low-fat yogurt.

5. Get in the habit of exercising every day. Your daily exercise regimen doesnt have to be strenuous. It just needs to be consistent. And there are lots of ways to avoid boredom and to get excited by your daily exercise routine. Try walking or jogging outside instead of on the treadmill. Or listen to a motivational book-on-tape or mp3 as you work out.

6. Eat for health. Think about food in terms of bang for your buck. Opt for nutrition-dense foods.

7. Eat for energy. Whenever you overeat, you rob your body of energy. Think of food as fuel. Keep an energy journal in which you log the way your body and mind respond to different food choices.

8. Help your mind and spirit to accept and welcome your new body image with behavior modification techniques. A subliminal or non-subliminal audiotape or CD, for example, can help you envision yourself as a fit, lean, healthy person who loves to exercise.

9. Subscribe to a healthy-living or fitness magazine. These magazines feature low-calorie, nutrient-rich recipes as well as inspiring weight-loss success stories.

10. Stop eating after dinner.

11. Join a support group. This can be a group of family members or neighbors all committed to improving their health - or a simple online weight loss community. Talking about our daily challenges and victories is highly motivating.

12. Track and record your weight loss efforts, in detail. You can do this on a hand-written chart, a simple computer spreadsheet, or in a journal or computer program designed for this purpose. Track your food intake, water intake, and exercise for the day. And make sure to weigh-in at the same time each week, so that you can track your weight loss results, too.

Weight Loss Success - Is It Attainable?

You see the ads on television. You read the ads online and they all over promise: "Lose weight in 2 weeks or Lose 7 pounds in 7 days." Weight loss success comes with a determination to achieve a goal that is very personal to you. A quick fix is never the answer or you will go back right where you started.

Weight loss management is often not part of the ad campaign of those who are desperately trying to tout their weight loss product. Weight loss has become so commercialized that you have to be very careful to be drawn in by the numerous tactics being used to get into your pockets.

Never before have I seen such overwhelming fervor in advertisers creating more and more products; even some not approved by the FDA, to get to the emotions of those who are trying to lose weight effortlessly. Every product is proclaimed to be always better than the next. To top it all off, advertisers know the weakness and the failed attempts that most people make to lose weight and they prey upon those kind of people and render them helpless to the well orchestrated ads that pop up all over the Internet and on the television that are watched.

Success in losing weight is a mindset and until that fact is realized, people will always end up on yo-yo diets and be disillusioned by the next weight loss product that hits the market.

You need to set your own weight loss goals and stick to them. You need a person on your team who forces you to be accountable. You are your worst enemy to your weight loss success. Discipline is fair game and weight loss success can be achieved if you make that extra effort to avoid certain foods, stop watching those late night pizza commercials and dont be swayed in your decision to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Remember that someone selling you a weight loss product does not necessarily mean that they have tried the product themselves to validate the results. Selling weight loss products is a big business and you will become a sucker each time you fail our weight loss diet. Dont be hard on yourself if you fail. It is quite normal to do so. However, if you can find the strength and determination to try again, there is a likelihood that you will succeed.

Evaluate where you are right now and how much weight you want to lose. Be sure to research any product that promises too much. Investigate the company, look for testimonials from those selling and buyers as well and make sure you read the ingredients or ask for them before you buy. Be responsible and be careful in your decisions. Set realistic goals and you will achieve good results.

It is extremely important that the body be hydrated at all times! Drinking water is one of the most important elements of living a healthy life as well as losing weight! Crash diets

There are 3-day diets, 5-day diets, diets that promise you'll drop a pound a day for 2 weeks. These are very appealing for people who want to lose weight for a special occasion. And they are the leading cause of yo-yo dieting.

Remember: If it's fast, it won't last.

As soon as you go back to eating the way you always have, the pounds will come back. And chances are, they'll come back with a vengeance since the deprivation of the quick diet will have slowed your metabolism, requiring fewer calories and causing your body to store the excess as fat.

These diets claim to "jump start" your weight loss, but in fact they do just the opposite. Going on a quickie diet implies going off it. You haven't changed your eating habits. You haven't incorporated more activity into your day. All you've done is temporarily forced your metabolism into starvation mode.

Other nutritionally unbalanced diets

Diets that prescribe a single category of food are just plain unhealthy. It doesn't matter if it's only grains or only greens or only meat. To review:

A balanced diet for an adult should derive 55 to 60 percent of its calories from carbohydrates, most of them complex carbohydrates.

The average adult needs about half a gram of protein for every pound of body weight.

Even fat is essential, but it should make up no more than 30 percent of your daily caloric intake, and most of it should be unsaturated.

Natural Weight Loss - 20 Tips for Lasting Success and Better Health

Weight loss is a concern for most Americans. Whether you're struggling with those final ten pounds that never seem to budge or you have many excess pounds that are having a negative impact on our overall health, it's time to make a change. Having battled my own weight issues for over 20 years, I now use my knowledge to support my clients to achieve weight loss success.

Like you, I tried almost everything to lose weight, and it wasn't until I took a more holistic approach that I finally dropped 40 pounds. Incorporating what I learned from my experience, I have maintained my weight loss for over six years and counting. Now it's my pleasure to share my secrets with you so your weight loss journey can finally be different with a more natural, healthy and successful approach.

I recommend reading through the following weight loss tips before choosing one or two to start with. After you have successfully incorporated these changes, try one or two more. You do not have to make every one of these changes overnight. Just get started making improvements and be patient yourself. This way you will have lasting success!

  • Do not make weight loss your top health concern (concern equals stress); instead seek a balanced lifestyle.
  • 95% of all people that go on a weight loss program fail; they continue the roller coaster ride, mostly because they do not adopt new healthy habits for life. Make changes that you can maintain long-term.
  • Seek out support from family members and friends. You will do better than if you try to go it alone.
  • Visualize daily what you want your life to look like. Remember that your thoughts create your life so be mindful of what you're choosing.
  • Lower your intake of highly processed foods and eat high quality locally grown and raised whole foods as much as possible.
  • Eat three meals every day. Skipping meals is the best way to cause cravings and imbalance in your life, your health and your weight.
  • Include moderate exercise at least three times each week. Walk more and take the stairs daily.
  • Practice breathing and relaxation techniques. Breathe deeply into your belly daily.
  • Add lots of vegetables to your diet. The more vegetables you eat - especially dark leafy greens - the easier it will be for your body to achieve its ideal weight.
  • Drink water all day long. Start with 1-2 glasses upon rising in the morning. Consider each cleansing bathroom break as an opportunity to breath and enjoy well-deserved private time.
  • Consider keeping a food diary. Awareness is essential.
  • Avoid an extreme diet of low-fat, high-protein or low-carbs. Balance is best. Choose healthy fats (extra virgin olive oil, avocado, walnuts, almonds), lean protein (beans, seeds, fish) and healthful carbs (whole grains like brown rice, quinoa, oatmeal). Eat in moderation. Make vegetables a large part of your diet.
  • Eat slower with no distractions such as TV, work or reading. Avoid stressful conversations while eating. When we eat under stress it affects our metabolism and instead of burning our food we store it as fat. This is the natural fight-or-flight response of the body.
  • Set realistic expectations. You won't be the same weight you were as a teenager.
  • Don't follow the "Sumo Diet" of consuming large quantities of food late at night when metabolism is at its lowest. Eat a large breakfast or lunch and a small dinner of salad, soup, vegetables or a highly nutritious shake.
  • Be conscious of hidden sugars in your foods. Sugar puts on weight and can lead to serious health issues like diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. Read labels and educate yourself.
  • Avoid artificial sweeteners as these can cause cravings for real sugar as well as other health problems. Use natural low-glycemic sweeteners and eat naturally sweet foods.
  • Complete eating at least 3 hours before sleeping. The body needs to fast in order to burn stored fat.
  • Excess weight equals potential energy, unexpressed or un-owned power. Seek out creative expression.
  • Love and accept yourself as you are today... don't wait until tomorrow, because tomorrow never comes.
